Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and visiting UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak have reportedly signed a security agreement.
According to Xinhua news agency, which quoted the Interfax-Ukraine news agency, Zelensky stated on Friday that the guarantees outlined in the ten-year agreement will remain in effect until Ukraine accedes to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
“We agreed with Britain on security in all areas — on the land, in the air, at sea and in cyberspace,” Zelensky noted.
According to the President, the deal covers issues related to weapons, sanctions, Ukraine’s border and post-conflict recovery.
According to Sunak, the UK would arm Ukraine, especially with naval weaponry, and will compel Russia “to pay the economic price” for its actions in the conflict with Ukraine.
Sunak also promised that the UK will provide Ukraine an additional 2.5 billion pounds, or roughly $3.2 billion, in defense funding when he arrived in Kiev earlier in the day.
According to him, the assistance would pay for artillery shells, missiles, anti-tank weapons, and military training for Ukrainian troops.
