UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for an end to the Ukraine crisis.
According to Xinhua news agency, he made the request on Friday during a Security Council meeting that was planned to take place in conjunction with the second anniversary of Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine.
After two years, the crisis in Ukraine still affects Europe deeply. According to UN General Assembly resolutions, international law, and the UN Charter, a just peace is long overdue, according to Guterres.
He stated that all states should desist from threatening or using force against the political independence or territorial integrity of any other state, and that international issues should be resolved peacefully.
There is a very real risk of the conflict getting worse and growing larger. He claimed that the crisis in Ukraine is increasing geopolitical divisions, escalating regional unrest, reducing the amount of time available to address other pressing international concerns, and eroding the common standards and values that contribute to global security.
The worldwide cost of living problem, which primarily affected developing nations, economic shocks, and a spike in food prices were all accelerated by the conflict. He also said that the possibility that this battle will lead to a nuclear accident sends shivers down people’s spines all across the world.
“It is time to recommit to the (UN) Charter and renew respect for international law. That is the path to peace and security — in Ukraine and around the world,” said Guterres.
