Union Home Minister Amit Shah flew over Kutch and Jakhau in Gujarat on Saturday to examine the damage caused by Cyclone Biparjoy, which made landfall on Gujarat’s coast on June 15.
During the inspection, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel accompanied him.
Shah also held a full review meeting with Patel and other top officials to discuss the current situation.
The aerial survey included Jakhau port and Mandvi in Kutch, which were both severely damaged by the cyclone. In addition, Shah paid a visit to the Mandvi Civil Hospital to meet with individuals injured in the cyclone.
Shah also visited Kathda village in Mandvi district to evaluate the readiness and provisions at the local cyclone relief shelters. The Home Minister is expected to visit the Swami Narayan temple in Bhuj to monitor the distribution of supplies, including food and other necessities to cyclone victims.
Meanwhile, the Kutch district is shown resilience, with stores and commercial institutions resuming operations, indicating a gradual return to normalcy. Authorities are stepping their attempts to restore power to many towns and hundreds of cyclone-ravaged villages.
Officials verified that the bad weather has subsided in Kutch, with no further rain and a notable reduction in wind speed since the cyclone’s passage.
As the administration’s primary focus switches to power restoration in regions like as Bhuj, Mandvi, and other villages, the major roadways are being cleared of debris, primarily uprooted trees.
Despite the relative calm, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a rain warning for areas like as Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, and Kutch until Sunday morning.
The IMD also warned of severe rains in isolated areas of Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Surendranagar, and Morbi districts.
