The United States has a “significant” defense engagement with India, as well as “terrific cooperation” within the Quad, according to the White House ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit beginning June 22.
“The United States has a significant defense partnership with India, as well as excellent cooperation within the Quad and across the Indo-Pacific with India.” There’s a lot to discuss. “We’re looking forward to the visit,” John Kirby, coordinator for strategic communications at the White House’s National Security Council, told reporters on Monday.
“I don’t believe the full agenda for the state visit has been fleshed out, but we are very much looking forward to having Prime Minister Modi here,” Kirby said in response to a question. The contract to manufacture GE-414 engines in India is set to be announced during the Prime Minister’s visit to the US from June 21-24.
Major defense deals are set to be struck, including a Rs 22,000 crore agreement between the two countries to purchase 30 MQ-9 B armed drones.
According to reports, Modi and President Joe Biden will discuss Indo-Pacific and maritime security challenges in light of China’s increasing assertiveness in the region.
The two presidents will also look into ways to broaden and strengthen the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue’s engagement.
