According to Houthi-run al-Masirah TV, the US and the UK have launched a fresh attack on Hodeidah, a port city in Yemen on the Red Sea.
According to Xinhua news agency, which cited the report, the attack on Sunday night was directed towards the Jad’a mountain in the city’s northern Alluheyah area.
Over the previous three days, US and British jets had conducted a number of similar air strikes, of which this one was the most recent.
According to the US and the UK, the purpose of the strikes was to prevent the Houthi group in Yemen from attacking international commerce in the Red Sea, which is an essential waterway for world trade.
The goal of the Houthis’ Red Sea actions, according to them, is to stop “Israeli-linked ships” from entering the water until Israel lifts its siege and ceases its attack on the Palestinian enclave of the Gaza Strip.
The Houthis threatened to launch more strikes shortly after declaring on Saturday that the US and UK’s recent airstrikes on their locations would not stop them from attacking Israeli objectives.
Under the Houthis’ leadership, Hodeidah serves as a vital conduit for the delivery of goods and humanitarian relief to Yemen, which has been embroiled in a civil conflict since 2015.
