Odia film industry veteran actress Jharana Das died on December 1 late night at her home on Chandni Chhack in Cuttack. Jharana Das was 82 years old when she died. According to reports, she had been suffering from old age ailments and had not been feeling well for quite some time.
Das, who was born in 1945, began her acting career in the 1960s and won the hearts of moviegoers with her performances in films such as ‘Shree Jagannath,’ ‘Nari,’ ‘Adinamegha,’ ‘Hisabnikas,’ ‘Pujafula,’ ‘Amadabata,’ ‘Abhinetri,’ ‘Malajanha,’ and ‘Heera Nella.’
The State Government honored her with the prestigious ‘Jayadev Puraskar’ for her contributions to the Odia film industry.
Das had previously worked as a child artist and announcer for All India Radio (AIR) in Cuttack.
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed his condolences on the actress’s death and announced that her final rites would be performed with full state honors.
