Vietnam’s Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh arrived in New Delhi late Tuesday evening on a three-day state visit that is meant to deepen the two countries’ long-standing ties.
“Warm welcome to PM Phạm Minh Chinh of Vietnam as he arrives in New Delhi on a State Visit. India and Vietnam share civilisational links and a longstanding friendship based on mutual trust. The visit will further strengthen our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership,” Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a post on X.
On Wednesday, the Vietnamese Prime Minister is expected to attend a variety of programming and business activities. On Thursday, he will be welcomed ceremonially at the Rashtrapati Bhavan’s forecourt.
On the same day, Pham Minh Chinh will pay respect to Mahatma Gandhi at the Raj Ghat before holding bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will also organize a luncheon in celebration of the group.
Chinh is also slated to meet with President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar during his visit.
“India considers Vietnam as a key pillar of its Act East Policy and an important partner in its Indo-Pacific vision,” the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Tuesday.
India-Vietnam relations have improved after the creation of a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Hanoi in 2016.
PM Modi has maintained Vietnam’s prominence as a crucial pillar of India’s ‘Act East’ policy and the Indo-Pacific vision, while also seeking to broaden the scope of the bilateral relationship, including a defense alliance, and pushing to accelerate progress on existing programs.
