On Thursday, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received a ceremonial welcome at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
During this time, PM Modi met with his coounterpart, and both leaders exchanged warm hugs. Following that, the Vietnamese Prime Minister reviewed an Indian Defence Force Guard of Honour.
PM Modi and Pham Minh Chinh then met with ministries and delegates from both countries.
Later, Pham Minh paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, at Rajghat.
He will hold bilateral conversations with Prime Minister Modi, who will also organize a luncheon in commemoration of the visiting party.
Chinh arrived in New Delhi late Tuesday evening for a three-day state visit aimed at strengthening the two countries’ long-standing ties.
During his visit, the Vietnamese prime minister will also meet with President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar.
External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishanakar met with the visiting Prime Minister on Wednesday and expressed gratitude for his direction in strengthening bilateral relations between India and Vietnam.
“Honoured to call on PM Pham Minh Chinh of Vietnam during his State visit to India. Appreciate his guidance on our bilateral relationship and on regional and global issues of mutual interest,” the EAM said in a post on ‘X’.
On Wednesday, the Vietnamese Prime Minister spoke at a business event held in the country’s capital. He claimed that India’s interest in exploring investments in Vietnam will broaden collaboration into new areas such as transportation, the economy, digitalization, and energy.
He also praised economic and trade collaboration as a “beacon of cooperation” between the two countries, and urged them to increase bilateral commerce to $20 billion.
He also praised India’s development under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.
India-Vietnam relations have improved after the creation of a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Hanoi in 2016.
PM Modi has maintained Vietnam’s prominence as a crucial pillar of India’s ‘Act East’ policy and the Indo-Pacific vision, while also aiming to broaden the scope of the bilateral relationship, including defense cooperation, and striving to accelerate progress on current programs.
