The dead toll in the Wayanad landslide catastrophe on Friday reached 297, according to officials, with 206 others still missing.
The rescue efforts continued on the fourth day of the state’s worst-ever natural disaster.
More than a thousand members of various forces, as well as locals, are working ceaselessly to help people and find the missing.
The most severely hit landslide areas include Churalpara, Velarimala, Mundakayil, and Punchirimadom.
With the construction of a 190-foot Bailey Bridge, communication between Churalmalai and Mundakayil is restored.
Sniffer dogs have also been called into service. The rescue crew is also outfitted with heavy earthmoving equipment.
An officer in charge of the activities stated that some houses were buried in one of the damaged areas where they were heading.
“Around 10 houses were there at the place we are reaching soon and according to what we are being told there might be some people, maybe alive,” said the official.
There are currently 91 relief camps, and 9,328 individuals have been successfully evacuated.
