Well-marked low pressure intensifies into depression over BoB, with heavy rain likely in Odisha.
“The well-marked low-pressure area over southeast Bay of Bengal moved nearly westwards, concentrated into a depression and lay centred at 0530 hrs IST of today, the 25th October 2025, over the same region, near latitude 10.8°N & longitude 89.0°E, about 420 km west-southwest of Port Blair (Andaman & Nicobar Islands), 990 km southeast of Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), 990 km east-southeast of Chennai (Tamil Nadu), 1000 km southeast of Kakinada (Andhra Pradesh) and 1040 km south-southeast of Gopalpur (Odisha)”, read the IMD bulletin.
The IMD predicts that the depression will move approximately west-northwestward and deepen into a deep depression by October 26. The system is forecast to intensify further, becoming a cyclonic storm over the southwest and surrounding west-central Bay of Bengal by October 27 morning. Over the following 48 hours, it is projected to track northwest towards the coast of Andhra Pradesh.
Meanwhile, fisherman are advised to avoid entering the sea owing to the forecasted rough weather conditions.
The IMD is actively watching the situation and will provide regular updates as it progresses.
