The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday confirmed the fixtures for the World Test Championship 2021-23 cycle and introduced a simplified points system with the winning team taking 12 points whatever the length of the series.
Virat Kohli-led India will start their 2nd cycle of the World Test Championship in the upcoming 5-Test series against England from August 4.
India will play a total of 6 bilateral series in the current cycle. Home series might be performed against Sri Lanka, New Zealand and Australia whereas India will travel to Bangladesh, England and South Africa for overseas tours.
West Indies and Pakistan, whom India haven’t performed in a bilateral series for near a decade, are the sides that India won’t be going through in Test assignments in the upcoming cycle. All 9 teams will play six series each, three home and three away with the cut-off date being 31 March 2023.

India reached the final of the inaugural edition of the World Test Championship. Virat Kohli’s side completed on top of the points table however lost to New Zealand in Southampton in the historic final in June.
ICC declares simplified points system
Unlike the previous World Test Championship cycle, the ICC has come up with a simplified points system for the 2021-23 edition.
Each match of the upcoming WTC will now be contested for the same number of points – 12 for a win, 4 for a draw and 6 for a tie.
The last cycle noticed the same number of points allocated to each series, divided throughout the number of matches played.
