Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said Monday that success in government service is judged not by designations but by the beneficial impact it has on residents’ lives, as he handed out appointment letters to 1,326 freshly recruited candidates at the 16th Nijukti Mela here.
Candidates from nine departments received appointment letters during a reception held at the Bhubaneswar Railroad Auditorium.
The new hires include 364 Junior Engineers in the Housing and Urban Development Department, 361 Junior Engineers in the Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Department, 12 Junior Engineers and 228 trainees in the Energy Department and Odisha Hydro Power Corporation (OHPC), 118 Assistant Agriculture Officers, 111 Assistant Professors, 15 Junior Engineers and 71 Livestock Inspectors, 26 Junior Coaches, 10 Instructors, and 10 Excise Sub-Inspectors.
Majhi congratulated the new appointments and stated that public service should be the primary goal of government employes, urging them to listen politely to people’s problems and resolve them in a timely manner.
“Whenever a person approaches you with a problem, you must, as part of the administration, listen to them with respect and take immediate action,” he said, stressing that government facilities must reach the last person in society.
The Chief Minister said Odisha’s vision was to become Samruddha Odisha by 2036 and contribute as a growth engine to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047.
He said the state government had launched large-scale recruitment drives in both the government and private sectors to build a clean, strong and service-oriented administration.
“From June 2024 until today, 45,408 people have already been given appointments at the government level,” Majhi said.
Highlighting the government’s efforts to recruit firms and create jobs, he stated that investments totaling almost Rs 21 lakh crore had arrived to Odisha in the previous two years and are likely to generate approximately 20 lakh jobs.
Majhi stated that at his recent Odisha Food Processing Road Show in New Delhi and Noida, he met with 208 investors and signed 38 MoUs totaling Rs 66,392 crore in investments and the creation of 54,135 employment.
“Reverse migration has already begun in Odisha,” he said, adding that industrialisation and employment opportunities in the state would witness significant changes in the coming days.
The Chief Minister also urged the new recruits to stay away from corruption and work with honesty and dedication.
Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo urged the appointees to carry out their duties with dedication and integrity and contribute to the state’s growth.
Rabi Narayan Naik, Minister of Panchayati Raj, Drinking Water, and Rural Development, said the new hires would play an important part in realizing Odisha’s development objective for 2036, and urged them to work for the state’s benefit.
Five newly appointed candidates from other departments also thanked the Chief Minister and promised to carry out their responsibilities with honesty, dedication, and a spirit of service.
Mukesh Mahaling, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, and Gokulananda Mallick, Minister of Fisheries and Animal Resources Development, attended the event.
