Union Minister for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Dharmendra Pradhan felicitated 26 experienced artisans and craftsmen in Bhubaneswar on Friday during the ‘Sammaan Samaroh of Vishwakarma Gurus’ under the ‘PM Vishwakarma’ scheme.
The craftsmen will also serve as brand ambassadors for the project, with potential to become Master Trainers and Trainers in their respective skills.
Pradhan congratulated PM Vishwakarma Gurus and conveyed his delight at hearing about their experiences. According to him, every artisan and sculptor in Odisha is a Vishwakarma. Their design is one-of-a-kind. We plan to raise awareness and connect more craftsmen like this.
The Prime Minister announced the ‘PM Vishwakarma’ scheme, which includes 18 trades and 28 sub-trades. The objective is to help artisans and craftspeople from start to finish. The scheme’s goal is to provide artisans and crafters with modern tools and skills, as well as credit assistance.
So far, almost 17 lakh people have registered on the PM Vishwakarma platform. According to an examination of the applications received on the PM Vishwakarma portal thus far, the demand for skill training in the top five trades accounts for 80% of the application count.
Mason, Tailor, Carpenter, Basket/ Mat/Broom maker, Coir Weaver, and Potter are the top five trades in Odisha in terms of applications. The Ministry will also make use of its regional reach and community expertise of CSCs to enhance registrations of trainers at the regional level, while simultaneously preserving the traditional craft and promote them in contemporary contexts.
