Odisha’s Public Health Director, Dr. Nilakantha Mishra, announced on Monday that the number of Covid-19 positive cases in the state has increased to 15, up three from the previous day’s total of 12.
Speaking to the media, Dr. Mishra informed the public that the situation is under control and that there is no immediate reason for fear.
“The detection of two to three new cases is not alarming. Currently, only persons exhibiting severe symptoms are being tested for Covid-19 and the positivity rate among those tested remains low,” he said.
He urged citizens to remain cautious and continue following Covid-appropriate behaviour.
“People should take medical advice seriously and adopt necessary precautions. Avoid crowded places, wear masks, use gloves when needed, and maintain hand hygiene,” Dr. Mishra advised.
The health official also highlighted concerns related to seasonal diseases that typically surge during the monsoon.
“With the onset of the rainy season, we are reviewing the state’s preparedness for vector- and water-borne diseases such as malaria and dengue,” he said.
Dr. Mishra noted that dengue cases in Koraput district remain minimal and are under control. In Khordha district, between 10 to 20 cases have been reported, and health department teams have been deployed to monitor and respond to the situation.
“No new cases have been detected in these areas so far. If we receive any complaints, our teams will promptly investigate,” he added.
He concluded by appealing to the public to remain vigilant and follow standard preventive measures.
“I urge everyone to adhere to health guidelines and encourage others to do the same,” he said.
