Cyclone Asani: A possible low pressure over the Andaman Sea is expected to intensify into a deep depression

Bhubaneswar: The cyclonic circulation that has formed over the Andaman Sea is expected to turn into low pressure, which could intensify into a deep depression, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) today.

Around May 6, a low pressure area will form in the South Andaman Sea and its surroundings. This will move northwestward and intensify into a deep depression in 48 hours, or on May 8, according to the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre.

The wind speed due to the depression is expected to be around 40-50 kmph from May 5 onward, increasing to 55-65 kmph with gusts up to 75 kmph on May 8.

From May 5 to 8, fishermen are advised not to venture into the Andaman Sea, which borders the Southeast and East-central Bay of Bengal.

However, because the system has not yet formed, no warnings have been issued specifically for ports.
