Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has declared the creation of another 2,91,666 homes under the Antyodaya Gruha Yojana and has prolonged the scheme’s duration by two years, now lasting until 2029.
The total expenditure of the scheme will stay at ₹7,550 crore; however, ₹3,500 crore designated for home renovations will be redirected for building new houses, as per the decision.
The Chief Minister stated that this action would assist the state in reaching its objective of delivering housing to all qualified families as soon as possible.
The state government has instructed the Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Department to promptly carry out a survey to determine new beneficiaries. Individuals who have obtained ₹48,500 or less, in addition to other qualified applicants, will be regarded for participation in the scheme.
The government has modified the incentives for recipients finishing house construction on schedule. Individuals finishing their homes in five months will now be awarded an incentive of ₹35,000, compared to the previous incentive of ₹20,000 for those who completed them in four months. In the same way, beneficiaries finishing construction within seven months will get ₹20,000, unlike the previous incentive of ₹10,000 for finishing within six months.
The Antyodaya Gruha Yojana was initiated aiming to deliver homes to five lakh families, especially impoverished and at-risk households that did not qualify for housing support under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
The recent decision aims to broaden the scheme’s reach and allow additional qualifying families to obtain permanent homes.
