Highlights from Day 9 of the CWG 2022: Vinesh Phogat, Ravi Dahiya, and Naveen won gold medals in wrestling. Ravi won the men’s 57kg final with a commanding performance against Nigeria’s Ebikewenimo Welson. Vinesh won gold in the women’s 53kg freestyle event after defeating a Sri Lankan wrester.
In the men’s 74kg final, Naveen won by technical superiority over Pakistan’s Muhammad Sharif Tahir.
Deepak Nehra, Pooja Gehlot, and Pooja Sihag all won bronze medals in their respective events. In the women’s 50kg freestyle, Gehlot defeated Scotland’s Christelle Lemofack Letchidjio, while Sihag defeated Australia’s Naomi de Bruine. Deepak won the 97kg freestyle wrestling competition by defeating Pakistan’s Tayab Raza 10-2.
India also took home two silver medals in track and field. Priyanka Goswami finished second in the 10km race walk, and Avinash Sable finished second in the 3000m steeple chase.
In addition, the men’s Lawn Bowls team took silver in the men’s four event. After losing their respective semifinal matches, boxers Mohammed Hussamuddin, Rohit Tokas, and Jaismine settled for bronze. Jaismine was defeated 2-3 in the women’s 57-60kg semifinal by England’s Gemma Paige Richardson, while Hussamuddin was defeated 1-4 in the men’s 57kg semifinal. Rohit had a similar fate, losing 2-3 in the 67kg category.
