India won 6 medals on Monday’s final day of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022, placing 4th overall behind Australia (178), England (176), and Canada (92).
India finished 3rd in the previous edition (Gold Coast 2018) with 66 points. The absence of shooting this time significantly reduced India’s medal haul. The final day began with table tennis star Sathiyan Gnanasekaran winning the bronze medal play-off in men’s singles.
It was followed by three gold medals from the badminton court, with PV Sindhu (women’s singles), Lakshya Sen (men’s singles), and the men’s doubles team of Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy winning their finals.
The men’s singles final was won by veteran table tennis player Achanta Sharath Kamal, but the men’s hockey team was humbled by Australia in the final.
