Today’s Stock Market News | Sensex, Nifty, and Share Prices Highlights: In a highly volatile session, Indian benchmark indices ended near the day’s high, with the Nifty falling short of 17,700. The BSE Sensex finished 130.18 points or 0.22% higher at 59,462.78, while the NSE Nifty 50 ended 39.20 points or 0.22% higher at 17,698.20. Oil and gas indices gained 2.5%, while metal and power indices gained 1.5% each. In contrast, the Pharma index fell 1% and the Information Technology (IT) index fell 0.76%. The BSE midcap and smallcap indices ended marginally higher in the broader market. The major Nifty gainers included ONGC, Tata Steel, NTPC, UPL, and Power Grid Corp, while the laggards included Divis Lab, Apollo Hospitals, Infosys, Maruti Suzuki, and Tata Consumer Products.
The retail inflation figure for July will be released today at 5.30 p.m. by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation. According to economists, headline retail inflation is likely to have slowed in July, led by lower food prices, with prices of certain key items falling sequentially. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) measured inflation rate fell to 7.01% in June, down from 7.04% in May. The RBI cut its inflation forecast for July-September to 7.1% from 7.4% previously.
