A low pressure area has formed over the north-east and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) regional centre in Bhubaneswar on Thursday.
It is expected to intensify into a well-defined low pressure area over the next 12 hours and concentrate into a depression over the next 24 hours.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in interior and coastal Odisha on August 19 and in western Odisha on August 20 as a result of its influence.
Squally weather with gusty surface wind speeds of 45 to 55 kmph is expected over the north adjoining west central Bay of Bengal from August 19 to 20, as well as along and off the Odisha coast on August 20.
