The Indian Men’s Hockey Team arrived in Odisha today in preparation for the ‘FIH Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023 Bhubaneswar-Rourkela’.
This morning, the team arrived at Bhubaneswar’s Biju Patnaik International Airport and was greeted warmly.
The players will fly to Rourkela, where they will begin practicing at the newly constructed Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium tomorrow.
They will be staying at the stadium’s hostel.
The 18-member team will be led by ace drag flicker Harmanpreet Singh, with Amit Rohidas from Odisha serving as Vice Captain.
The Hockey World Cup will be held from the 13th to the 29th of January at Bhubaneswar’s Kalinga Stadium and Rourkela’s Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium.
The 16 teams competing in the tournament are Australia, Belgium, the Netherlands, India, Argentina, Germany, New Zealand, England, France, Korea, Malaysia, Spain, South Africa, Japan, Chile, and Wales.
India’s World Cup campaign will kick off on January 13th in Rourkela against Spain, followed by their second pool D match against England. They will travel to Bhubaneswar to face Wales in their third pool match. The knockout stage will begin on the 22nd and 23rd of January, followed by the Quarterfinals on the 25th and Semifinals on the 27th. The Bronze Medal match and the Final will take place on January 29th.
