Odisha pays tribute to its two extraordinary sons, Veer Surendra Sai and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on the occasion of their birth anniversaries today, on 23rd January.

Indeed, the 126th birth anniversary of Netaji is being commemorated across the country as the Parakram Divas. Another illustrious son of Odisha was Sai, who raised a special force to fight the British rulers and later joined the Sepoy Revolution in 1857.

While several programs are being held across the state to pay tribute to Netaji and Sai on this occasion, President of India Droupadi Murmi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik took to Twitter to pay glowing tributes to the two freedom fighters who brought glory to India as well as Odisha.independence.

President Murmu wrote, “Tributes to freedom fighter Veer Surendra Sai on his birth anniversary. His struggling life story is a wonderful example of courage, sacrifice and sacrifice. I request all countrymen to know about national heroes like Veer Surendra Sai and take inspiration from his life story.”

Paying homage to Netaji, she wrote, “On Parakram Diwas, we pay homage to one of the greatest sons of Bharat Mata, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. Netaji epitomises exceptional courage and patriotism. Under his leadership, millions joined the struggle for India’s freedom. Indians will remain forever indebted to him.”

Prime Minister Modi wrote on his Twitter handle, “Today, on Parakram Diwas, I pay homage to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and recall his unparalleled contribution to India’s history. He will be remembered for his fierce resistance to the colonial rule. Deeply influenced by his thoughts, we are working to realise his vision for India.”

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik wrote, “Paying my respects to eminent freedom fighter Veer Surendra Sai on his birth anniversary. The strength he showed in the freedom struggle of the country with the protection of the rights and rights of the common tribal people is memorable.”

Veer Surendra Sai

Veer Surendra Sai was born on January 23, 1809, in Sambalpur, to the Khanda Zamindari family, and led a special army against the then-British government. He later joined the Sepoy Revolution with his forces in 1857. Thousands of young people were inspired by his call to join the freedom struggle against the British government. In 1884, Sai passed away.

Subhas Chandra Bose was born on January 23, 1897, in Odia Bazaar, Cuttack, to Pravabati Devi and Janakinath Bose. He attended school in Cuttack. He graduated from Scottish Church College at Calcutta University and continued his education at Cambridge University.

Netaji Jayanti

Bose believed that defeating the British through armed struggle was the only way to achieve freedom. He resigned from his position as president of the Indian National Congress and went to Singapore to form the Azad Hind Fauj there on October 21, 1943. Azad Hind Fauz entered Indian territory through Burma on March 18, 1944. Due to his heroic acts against the British misrule, he is remembered as Netaji.
