The Indian cricket team climbed to the top of the ICC Men’s ODI Team Rankings after a 3-0 thrashing of New Zealand on Tuesday.
Fantastic centuries by Shubman Gill (112 off 78) and Rohit Sharma (101 off 85), combined with an impressive bowling performance (Shardul Thakur (3-45) and Kuldeep Yadav (3-62), propelled India to a convincing 90-run win in the third and final ODI at the Holkar Cricket Stadium, despite a fighting century from Devon Conway.
India won the first ODI, a high-scoring thriller at Hyderabad, by 12 runs, while their seamers helped them win the second game by eight wickets at Raipur. And, with their third and final victory in Indore, India has risen to the top of the Men’s ODI Rankings.
England, which had taken over first place three days ago following New Zealand’s loss to India in the second ODI, is now second, with New Zealand dropping to fourth.
Prior to Tuesday’s game, all three teams were tied on 113 points, with their total points being the deciding factor.
However, the most recent results place India first with 114 rating points, England second with 113 rating points, and Australia third with 112 rating points. The team from New Zealand has 111 rating points.
If England wins their upcoming ODI series against South Africa 3-0, they will displace India table toppers in the Men’s ODI rankings.
