On Sunday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow warning for rain and thundershowers in 16 districts of Odisha. Due to the impact of western disturbances, light to moderate rain or thundershower is expected at one or two locations in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Boudh, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Puri, Khurda, Ganjam, Gajapati, and Nayagarh districts.
Several areas in Odisha have seen rain and thundershowers over the last two days. Heavy rain and hailstorms have been reported in some areas, in addition to high winds. Wind speeds ranged from 40 to 80 kilometers per hour in some areas.
The IMD has predicted light to moderate rain with thundershowers in several places in coastal Odisha on Sunday too.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, the capital city of Bhubaneswar and its neighboring Cuttack experienced the year’s first rainfall, thunderstorm with lightning, and gusty surface wind.
Rain and thunderstorms were reported in several locations throughout the Sambalpur and Balangir districts. Lamtaput in the Koraput district received 68.2 millimeters of rain.
