The second Test between India and the West Indies (IND vs WI 2nd test) at the Queens Park Oval in Kolkata was called a draw on Monday after heavy rain halted play on the fifth day of the contest. The two-match series was won by India 1-0.
India had the upper hand throughout the match, therefore the outcome was disappointing. India, who had scored 438 and 181/2 declared in their two innings, had reduced the West Indies, who were chasing a goal of 365, to 76/2 at stumps on day four. The hosts needed 290 runs to win the match after scoring 255 runs in their first innings.
On the fifth and final day, India’s bowlers were trying to grab the last eight wickets required in the time remaining in the match to pocket another 12 points and add to their blistering start to the 2023-25 World Test Championship. However, the weather prevented them from taking advantage of this opportunity, and the game finished in a tie.
The start of day five’s play was delayed earlier in the morning due to heavy rain and cloudy conditions. Due to overs lost on days three and four due to previous rain disruptions, the last day of the Test series was scheduled to begin 30 minutes earlier than usual.
Brief scores:
India 438 & 181/2 decl. vs West Indies 255 & 76-2 in 32 overs (Kraigg Brathwaite 28; Ravichandran Ashwin 2-33). Match drawn .
