The 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup will be held in the Caribbean and the United States from June 4 to June 30, 2024, over ten venues.
According to ESPNcricinfo, an ICC delegation toured the selected locations in the United States this week, which will host an international global cricket event for the first time.
For tournament matches and warm-ups, the sites include Lauderhill, Florida, which has already hosted international matches (and is slated to host West Indies against India in the following fortnight), Morrisville, Dallas, and New York.
Morrisville and Dallas are currently hosting the first season of Major League Cricket in the United States. The grounds at Dallas (Grand Prairie Stadium), Morrisville (Church Street Park), and New York, (Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx) are yet to get international venue status, which is mandatory as per ICC rules
The ICC, along with Cricket West Indies (CWI) and USA Cricket (USAC), will make the final decision on the locations in the coming months, according to the article.
Earlier this week, Ireland, Scotland, and Papua New Guinea qualified for the 20-team T20 World Cup through the ICC’s regional qualification system. PNG won the East Asia-Pacific Qualifier, while Ireland and Scotland finished first and second in the Europe Region Qualifier, respectively.
Meanwhile, in the next months, qualifiers from the Americas (for one seat), Africa (two spots), and Asia (two spots) areas will be chosen.
Before the regional qualifications, twelve countries had already qualified for the event, including hosts West Indies and the United States, as well as the top eight teams from the 2022 T20 World Cup – Australia, England, India, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, and Sri Lanka. Afghanistan and Bangladesh qualified based on their positions in the T20I rankings, rounding out the 20-team roster.
The structure for the 2024 World Cup will differ from the previous two editions (2020-21 in the UAE and 2022 in Australia), in which the first round was followed by Super 12s.
For the first round next year, the 20 teams will be divided into four groups of five, with the top two teams from each group qualifying for the Super 8s. The Super 8 teams will be split into two groups of four each, with the top two in each group reaching the semi-finals.
