The BCCI media rights for home matches were being contested by ViaCom18, Disney Star, and Sony Sports. The BCCI auctioned media rights for the following cycle via an e-auction method, which they also used to sell Indian Premier League media rights.
According to sources, Amazon and FanCode were supposed to compete, but they did not participate in the auction.
In the previous cycle, Disney Star earned the media rights for Rs. 6,138 crore.
The BCCI auctioned media rights in two packages: India subcontinent TV and India subcontinent and global digital rights. The base price for TV was established at Rs 20 crore each match, while the base price for the second package was set at Rs 25 crore every match.
The following cycle has 88 matches, but this number may increase in the latter stages.
The announcement was made by BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, who congratulated Viacom18 on their triumph and complimented Disney Star for their services to Indian cricket.
