In a stunning turn of events, Australia clinched their record-extending sixth Cricket World Cup title by defeating India in the 2023 final held in Ahmedabad. Despite India’s unbeaten run in the tournament leading up to the final, Australia, led by Pat Cummins, showcased their championship pedigree, outclassing the Rohit Sharma-led Indian team.
Batting first, India set a modest target of 241 runs, with contributions from Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, who both scored half-centuries, and a quick 47 off 31 balls from Rohit Sharma. However, Australia’s bowlers, led by Mitchell Starc with 3/55, restricted India’s batting prowess. Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood also played pivotal roles with 2 wickets each.
In response, Australia faced an early challenge at 47/3, but Travis Head’s spectacular 137 off 120 balls, supported by Marnus Labuschagne’s 58, guided Australia to a comfortable six-wicket victory in just 43 overs.
