The Indian Armwrestlers’ domination was once again on display as the Indian contingent displayed an amazing exhibition of talent and commitment, capturing an unprecedented 9 medals at the recently ended Asian Armwrestling Cup 2023.

The Indian contingent took home nine medals, including three gold, two silver, and four bronze. Para-athlete BV Srinivas headed the contingent, probably the first time an Indian sports contingent has been led by a para-athlete. Srinivas has been involved in armwrestling for four years and is a personal fitness trainer with his own company, BVS Fitness Source’. He won the Silver medal in Disabled Standing Category in 2019 National Armwrestling Championship in Bhilai and stood 4th in World Armwrestling Championship in Romania in 2019.

Srinivas competed in the 90kg Para division in both the left and right hand positions, earning gold medals in both. Laxman Singh Bhandari won gold in the 70kg Grand Master category (right-hand position) and silver in the Grand Master left-hand position. Krishna Kumar took silver in the Para 75kg+ (right-hand position) category. Shrimant Jha won bronze in the Para 85kg+ category, competing in the right-hand position. Meanwhile, in the right-hand position, Airikmenlang Shabong (50kg) and Wanda Syiemiong (60kg) won bronze medals. Senebi Syngkli took bronze in the 55kg senior division, competing in the left-hand position. Overall, India finished third in the Para Competition, which was a significant accomplishment for the para-athletes.

Preeti Jhangiani, president of the People’s Armwrestling Federation India (PAFI), voiced her pride and the success of the Indian Armwrestlers at the Asian Armwrestling Cup 2023. She said, “The Indian Armwrestlers have etched their names in history at the Asian Armwrestling Cup 2023. Their unwavering dedication has not only secured victories but has also raised our nation’s pride to new heights. I am sure that going forward, our Armwrestlers will bring more accolades back home.”
