Olympian Elavenil Valarivan won the women’s 10m Air Rifle title on the final day of the 66th National Shooting Championship Competitions (NSCC) for Rifle events today at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range.
In the eight-woman final, Gujarat’s shooter fired 253.4, while Haryana’s Ramita Jindal finished second with 252.5.
Ramita’s teammate Nancy finished third, but the last name was joined with Hazel and Shruti to win the team gold. Ramita also won the junior air rifle gold with a final score of 254.9, while Madhya Pradesh’s Gautami Bhanot earned the youth gold.
Haryana also won the overall championship with 26 medals, 15 of which were gold. West Bengal finished third, while Punjab finished second.
Elavenil, who has been in excellent form recently, finished second in the qualifications with a score of 632.9. Isha Anil Taksale of Maharashtra won the large 720-person field with a score of 633.3.
Mehuli Ghosh, who finished fifth in the qualifying with a 632.1 and fourth overall, bowing out with a 209.8 in the final, was another to make it through to the quality finals field.
