After missing the entire 2023 season due to injury, Tokyo Olympic silver winner Ravi Kumar Dahiya made a comeback by winning a bronze medal at the Henri Deglane Grand Prix wrestling tournament in Nice, France.
In the bronze medal match for men 61 kg freestyle, Dahiya defeated Kairat Amirtayev of Kazakhstan 10-4.
In the round of 16, Dahiya defeated Julien Zinser of Germany with technical dominance (13-2), and in the quarterfinal, they defeated Zangar Kabylbekov of Kazakhstan 12-6.
The Indian wrestler was defeated 6-3 by Frenchman Arman Eloyan in the semifinals, despite his impressive effort. Dahiya then moved on to the bronze medal match.
The 26-year-old’s most recent international competition was the World Wrestling Championships in 2022. Regretfully, injuries to his right knee, notably to the Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) and Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL), incurred during a practice session in February, forced him to withdraw from the Asian Championships in April 2023.
