Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday chaired a meeting of the Union Council of Ministers in what is likely to be the last such exercise during the second term of his government.
During the meeting, several departments are expected to submit their future plans. Modi is likely to talk extensively about the achievements of his 10-year government and future plans, particularly the objective of creating “Viksit Bharat” by 2047.
The prime minister has been gathering the whole Council of Ministers periodically to talk about important matters of governance and policy, but this particular meeting has taken on political importance in light of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, which are scheduled for April or May.
The Election Commission (EC) is likely to announce the poll schedule in a couple of weeks.
The meeting is being held at the Sushma Swaraj Bhawan in the national capital’s Chanakyapuri diplomatic enclave.
Because of its development and welfare policies, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has stated that it is confident it will hold onto power at the federal level for a third term under Modi.
The EC has started assessing each state’s readiness to host the Lok Sabha elections.
The nine-phase Lok Sabha elections in 2014 were scheduled by the Election Commission (EC) to take place on March 5 and the results were announced on May 16.
The seven-phase Lok Sabha elections in 2019 were announced by the poll commission on March 10 and the results were made public on May 23.
