One day after India’s 4-1 victory over England in the five-match series concluded in Dharamsala, Rohit Sharma’s team moved up to the top of the ICC Test rankings, surpassing Australia in the most recent standings published by the world cricket governing body on Sunday.
In all three forms of the game, India is currently atop the ICC rankings and is leading the World Test Championship (WTC) standings.
India rallied to win the next four Tests against England, despite losing the first Test in Hyderabad by a margin of 28 runs. Victories in Ranchi, Rajkot, Vizag, and now Dharamsala have enabled the team to surpass Australia’s comeback and take the top spot in the ICC Test Team Rankings once again.
India had slipped to second place in Test Team Rankings after a drawn 1-1 series against South Africa this January with Australia overtaking Rohit Sharma-led side at the top of the Test rankings, after sweeping the three-Test series at home against Pakistan.
In the T20Is, India have 266 rating points, with England (256) at the second spot.
India were the world No.1 Test side from September 2023 to January 2024, before they slipped to second spot after a drawn away series against South Africa.
Australia, the defending World Test Championship victors, won by 172 runs in Wellington to take a 1-0 lead in the two-Test series.
In the Test standings, India leads Australia by five points with 122 rating points, while England comes in third with 111 rating points.
India leads Australia by a narrow margin in One-Day Internationals (ODIs), with 121 rating points.
Following their home victory in the three-Test series against Pakistan, Australia surpassed India to take the top spot in the Test rankings.
India lost the first Test in Hyderabad by 28 runs in their five-Test series against England. However, the home team won the next four Test matches after mounting a strong comeback.
Victories in Visakhapatnam, Rajkot, Ranchi and Dharamsala helped them reclaim the top position in the Test rankings.
