The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted a significant increase in daytime temperatures (maximum temperatures) across various parts of Odisha in the next four to five days, with an expected rise of 4°C to 6°C.
According to the regional centre of the IMD in Bhubaneswar, “This temperature rise is due to prevailing north-westerly/westerly dry air and high solar insolation.”
While coastal Odisha is predicted to see temperatures between 36°C and 38°C over the next two days, the prediction predicts that daytime highs will exceed 40°C in many parts of the state.
On April 17 and 18, temperatures in the interior are predicted to range from 40°C to 42°C. In addition, over the next three days, several locations should see a rise in nighttime temperatures of 2 to 4 degrees Celsius, according to the IMD.
The highest temperature ever recorded in the state on Sunday was 40.5°C in Paralakhemundi, with 39.9°C and 39.6°C in Malkangiri and Bhubaneswar, respectively.
The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Cuttack, Nayagarh, Dhenkanal, Bhadrak, and Jajpur districts for April 15 due to the possibility of a heatwave.
Weather forecasters warned that hot and muggy conditions are anticipated throughout the day in a number of districts, including Bhadrak, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Khurda, Cuttack, Angul, and Nayagarh.
People are urged by the department to use caution if they plan to be outside between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
