The regional centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow signal for thunderstorms and lightning in 13 Odisha districts. The weather department also predicts no temperature swings over the next five days.
According to data from the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, thunderstorms with lightning are likely to occur today, with gusty surface wind speeds reaching 40-50 kmph in some areas of the districts, and heavy rainfall is very likely to occur in one or two areas of Coastal Odisha, North, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Ganjam, and Gajapati.
Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speeds of 30-40 kmph are highly likely to occur in one or two locations over the districts of Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, and Nayagarh.
The Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar shared weather information, tweeting, “Thunderstorms with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind likely over districts of Odisha during next 4-5 days.”
Furthermore, the weather bureau has warned residents to keep an eye on the weather for increasing conditions and to be prepared to evacuate to safer areas to avoid lightning strikes.
