The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts that five districts will receive heavy to very heavy rainfall on Saturday as a result of the depression over the Northwest and bordering Westcentral Bay of Bengal off the shores of Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh.

According to the most recent meteorological report, the system is expected to travel further west-northwestward and reach the Odisha coast to the south of Puri near Chilika Lake as a depression in the early morning hours today, resulting in heavy rains until July 23.

Meanwhile, the IMD issued an orange warning for heavy to very heavy rain in Kandhamal, Boudh, Kalahandi, Bolangir, and Nuapada districts on Saturday. These districts are expected to receive significant rain (70-100 mm) today.

Besides, heavy rainfall is expected today in Bargarh, Sambalpur, Angul, Jharsuguda, Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Nabarangpur and Balasore districts due to depression.

According to the weather forecast, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, and Bargarh districts are expected to see significant rainfall on July 21.

On July 22, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, and Dhenkanal districts are expected to receive significant rains. This weather trend is predicted to persist through July 23.

Meanwhile, the Special Relief Commissioner has advised all district collectors to be prepared for any eventuality resulting from the low pressure that has formed over the southwest Bay of Bengal.

Districts with high rainfall predictions have been advised to take precautions. Orange warnings have been issued for areas with significant rains, which might cause waterlogging and damage to kutcha roads and homes. The collectors have been asked to take the necessary steps.

According to IMD Director Sarat Sahu, another low-pressure system is predicted to emerge across North Odisha and Jharkhand on July 23.

Notably, numerous regions of Odisha had rainfall during the depression. It would progressively lessen over the next 24 hours, according to IMD.
