The India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) regional centre predicts that rain in Odisha would diminish beginning today. The weather authority has also issued a yellow notice for six districts due to severe rain today.
According to the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, isolated severe rainfall (7 cm – 11 cm) is expected to hit Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundergarh, Deoghar, and Keonjhar.
Yesterday, a low pressure region emerged over Gangetic West Bengal and bordering Bangladesh as a result of cyclonic circulation. However, because the low pressure region is still active far away from Odisha and is slowly moving west-northwestward, the impact of rain on the state is expected to decrease beginning tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the IMD has advised fishermen not to go into the sea, along and off the Odisha Coast, or the North Bay of Bengal, for the next 24 hours, stating that rough to very rough sea conditions are very likely to prevail over the North Bay of Bengal, along and off the Odisha Coast.
Taking serious note of the yellow alert across the six districts, SRC has advised collectors to be prepared for any scenario and issued the following warnings:
- Districts under yellow warning to keep administrative machinery ready to face any eventuality.
- In urban areas, low-lying areas may have water logging and roads/drains may be submerged under water.
- ULBs musty keep the drains/storm water channels de-congested and adequate de-watering pumps may be deployed as per requirement.
- Heavy to very heavy rainfall recorded may be reported immediately to the SRC office.
- Advance for fishermen to be strictly implemented.
- Submit report on damage, if occurred due to heavy rainfall immediately for information of the govt.
