The 2024 Paris Olympics concluded on Sunday, August 11 with a star-studded closing ceremony at the Stade de France, featuring performances by Tom Cruise, Snoop Dogg, and Billie Eilish, as the focus shifts to Los Angeles 2028.
Manu Bhaker and PR Sreejesh were the Indian contingent’s flagbearers in the Parade of Nations, which featured athletes from 206 contingents, including the Games’ first refugee team.
India Medals at Paris Olympics 2024
India bagged six medals at the 33rd edition of the Summer Games – 5 bronze and 1 silver.

In the 16-day megasports event, 206 countries competed for 329 gold medals over 32 sports. In the end, America stayed in top place with 40 gold, 44 silver, and 42 bronze medals. America won 126 medals at the Paris Olympics, cementing its dominance. China had to be satisfied with second place after earning 40 gold medals. China won 91 medals, including 40 golds, 27 silvers, and 24 bronzes. Japan stayed third in the medal standings, with 20 gold, 12 silver, and 13 bronze medals.
Paris Olympics 2024 Closing Ceremony Updates:
Manu Bhaker and Sreejesh held the tricolor
10,500 athletes from all over the world competed in the Paris Olympics, where 117 Indian players earned one silver and five bronze medals, finishing 71st overall. During the closing ceremony, Manu Bhaker and hockey goalkeeper PR Sreejesh held the Indian tricolour. Manu Bhaker won two bronze medals at the Paris Olympics, becoming the first Indian to do so. Sreejesh retired from the sport after earning a bronze medal at the Olympics for the second time in a row. Neeraj Chopra was chosen as the flag bearer at the closing ceremony, but he nominated Sreejesh.
Olympic Games declared closed!
Leon Marchand makes his way to the stage in the middle of Stade de France, with the Olympic flame lighted lamp in his hand, where IOC chief Thomas Bach and the six chosen medal winners. Together, they fuff the lamp fire before Bach declares the Games closed.
The camera then turns to French para-athletes, who will now be the centre of attention alongside their counterparts from other countries as Paris Paralympic Games beginning in two weeks time.
Los Angeles will host the Olympic Games for the third time
At the end of the program, the Mayor of Paris presented the Olympic flag to the Mayor of Los Angeles. Los Angeles will become the third city in the world, after London and Paris, to hold the Olympic Games three times. Los Angeles hosted Olympic Games in 1932 and 1984. The Olympics will return to Los Angeles after 44 years and to America after 32 years. Tom Cruise, a well-known American actor, also attended the flag-handover event. He jumped from the heavens to the stadium, then rode the flag to the plane, where it arrived directly in Los Angeles.
