The India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) regional office in Bhubaneswar has warned that heavy rains are expected in various Odisha districts on Tuesday due to a low-pressure system over south Bangladesh. It has issued yellow warnings for heavy rain in Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, and Jharsuguda. The weather in other parts of the state is anticipated to be cloudy.
On Thursday, a yellow alert for heavy rainfall was issued for Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Ganjam, Koraput, and Kalahandi districts.
Meteorologist Professor Surendranath Phupalak predicts rain in various parts of the state on Tuesday and Wednesday. Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Deogarh and Dhenkanal. Sundargarh, Kandhamal, and Nuapada will get moderate to heavy rain on Wednesday.
On Thursday, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected in Sambalpur, Sonepur, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Cuttack, and Khurda.
Odisha has received 680.5 mm of rain since June this year. Currently, rainfall activity remains 10% lower than typical. During this time, Malkangari received more than usual rainfall, while three districts received more and 16 districts had normal rainfall. The remaining eleven districts saw modest rainfall.
According to the meteorological forecast, a cyclonic circulation is expected to form in the North Bay of Bengal early next week.
