On Wednesday, a new cyclonic circulation started over north Andhra Pradesh and surrounding beaches, which will develop into a low-pressure system in the west-central and bordering north-west Bay of Bengal by Thursday. According to the regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), rainfall activity in Odisha is expected to rise as a result of this low-pressure system. The meteorological office predicts heavy rains in south Odisha districts during the next two days. The IMD issued a yellow signal for heavy rain in 12 areas on Friday.
Heavy rain will fall in five districts of south Odisha from September 9 to 11. Heavy rain is also expected in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Bolangir, Nuapada, Rayagada, Ganjam and Gajapati on Thursday. The IMD predicted 70 mm to 110 mm of rain in various places of these districts.
Heavy rain may also occur in Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Rayagada, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, and Kandhamal on Friday. On Saturday and Sunday, several regions around the Odisha coast are expected to experience considerable rainfall.
A yellow alert for heavy rain has been issued in nine districts for Saturday’s Ganesh Puja. Special warnings have been issued for Puri, Khurda, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Nayagarh, Angul, and Dhenkanal.
