Even as a strong cold wave sweeps through Odisha, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts the emergence of a new low pressure region over the southeast Bay of Bengal in the coming 24 hours. Light to moderate rain is forecast in various areas of the state beginning Tuesday as a result of the low pressure system.
Light rainfall is expected in isolated areas of Koraput, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, and Rayagada districts. Rainfall is also expected in many parts of south Odisha on Thursday. Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri are also expected to receive light to moderate rainfall during the weekend.
Meanwhile, the IMD predicts that nighttime temperatures will rise by 3°C to 5°C in different sections of the state beginning Thursday. Light to Moderate fog may occur in Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Bolangir and Sundargarh in the next 24 hours.
On Sunday, a cold wave seized the whole state, with 11 locations reporting minimum temperatures below 10°C. Severe cold has disturbed normal living. Udayagiri had the lowest nighttime temperature, at 6.6°C. Jharsuguda and Rourkela recorded nighttime temperatures of 6.8°C. Daringibari and Phulbani recorded 8.5°C, Angul recorded 9°C, Sundargarh and Bhawanipatna recorded 9.4°C, Boudh recorded 10°C, Sonepur recorded 10.5°C, Nabarangpur recorded 10.6°C, and Bolangir measured 10.7°C. The capital city of Bhubaneswar recorded 13°C.
