Stock Market Highlights, Thursday, January 30, 2025: Benchmark equity indices rose for the third straight session on Thursday, closing in positive territory. The BSE Sensex rose 226.85 points, or 0.30 percent, to close at 76,759.81. On Thursday, the index peaked at 76,898.63 and fell to 76,401.13.
The NSE Nifty50 rose 86.40 points, or 0.37 percent, to settle at 23,249.50. On Thursday, the index traded between 23,311.15 and 23,139.20.
35 of the 51 Nifty50 constituent stocks closed in the green, with Bharat Electronics, Power Grid Corporation, Cipla, Hero MotoCorp, and Bharti Airtel leading the way with gains of up to 4.87 percent. Tata Motors, ITC Hotels, Adani Enterprises, and Shriram Finance, and Bajaj Finserv, on the other hand, were among the 17 stocks that ended lower, with losses extending up to 6.98 per cent.
The Nifty Smallcap 100 index increased by 0.12%, while the Nifty Midcap 100 index fell by 0.01%.
The fear index, India VIX, which monitors market volatility, rose 6.70 percent to 17.39 points.
Sectoral markets closed on a mixed note, with the Nifty FMCG, Healthcare, Financial Services, Pharma, and OMCs indices rising by up to 1.55%. Notably, the Nifty IT index fell 1.14 percent to 42,426.65, led down by Coforge and Mphasis. Among others, the Nifty Auto, Metal, PSU Bank, and Consumer Durables indices fell by much to 1.84 percent.
