Jay Shah, the Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), received the Icon of Excellence Award at the 14th Forbes India Leadership Awards (FILA 2025). The award acknowledges his outstanding contributions to cricket administration.
From his significant term as secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to becoming the youngest-ever ICC Chair, Shah has been at the forefront of promoting sport innovation, diversity, and growth.
Harsh Mariwala, Chairman of Marico Limited, and KVS Manian, MD and CEO of Federal Bank, presented him with the award during a renowned event held on Friday at Mumbai’s JIO World Convention Centre.
Jay Shah’s leadership has been instrumental in pioneering key initiatives such as cricket pay parity, the launch of the Women’s Premier League, the establishment of the National Cricket Academy’s Centre of Excellence, and an increase in monthly pensions, among others, according to the award’s organizers in a statement released on Friday. His continuous efforts to broaden cricket’s reach, strengthen global collaborations, and improve the sport’s infrastructure continue to define the game’s future on a global scale, according to the statement.
Shah, 36, was voted unopposed as the new ICC Chairman to succeed Greg Barclay, who has held the position since November 2020. He became the youngest person to hold the prized seat and is the fifth Indian to be ICC Chairman, after Jagmohan Dalmiya, Sharad Pawar, N Srinivasan, and Shashank Manohar..
Shah’s experience in cricket management began in 2009 with the Gujarat Cricket Association. During his term, he oversaw the construction of the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. In 2019, he was appointed secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the youngest person to occupy the position. He has also served as President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and Chairman of the International Cricket Council’s Finance and Commercial Affairs Committee.
