Indian wrestlers continued their winning streak on the second day of the Senior Asian Wrestling Championship 2025, with Nitesh winning his second bronze medal for the country in Amman, Jordan, on Wednesday. Nitesh demonstrated exceptional technique and dedication in the Greco-Roman category, adding another bronze medal to Sunil Kumar’s win in the men’s 87kg.

In the bronze medal match, Nitesh defeated Turkmenistan’s Amanberdi Agamammedov 9-0 on Wednesday, using Victory by Supression (VSU).

Nitesh, 22, began his career with a convincing 9-0 victory over Kazakhstan’s Ilyas Guchigov. However, he had a difficult challenge in the semifinals, losing to Iranian wrestler Mohammadhadi Abdollah Saravi.

Undeterred, Nitesh rebounded impressively in the bronze medal round, defeating Turkmenistan’s Agamammedov to finish on the podium.

With this triumph, the Indian Greco-Roman team has now won two bronze medals in the tournament, indicating a solid performance on the world scene, according to Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President Sanjay Singh in a statement sent from Amman on Wednesday.

Earlier on Tuesday, Greco-Roman wrestler Sunil Kumar performed admirably in the men’s 87 kg division, winning a bronze medal for his country by defeating Chinese wrestler Jiaxin Huang by Victory by Points (5-1) in the bronze medal match. In other bouts, in the men’s 55kg division, India’s Nitin crashed out with a 9-0 loss to Yu Choi Ro of North Korea in the qualification round, while in the men’s 77kg division, India’s Sagar Thakran lost via Victory by Superiority to Amro Abed Alfattah Jamal Sadeh of Jordan.

The spotlight now moves to women’s wrestling, which will begin on Thursday with competition in five weight divisions. World Championship medalist Antim Panghal, Neha, Muskan, Monika, Mansi Lathar, Jyoti Berwal, and Reetika will compete for India in a variety of weight categories.

The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has selected a strong squad for the Asian Championship following successful selection trials at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex in New Delhi.
