Utkala Dibasa (Odisha Day) 2025: Every year on April 1, the people of Odisha celebrate Utkala Dibasa, also called Odisha Foundation Day, which commemorates the state’s establishment as an independent nation in 1936. It is being observed on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, this year.
Before becoming a separate Indian state in 1936, Odisha, Bihar, and Jharkhand were all a part of the Bengal Presidency. The desire to preserve Odisha’s unique language, culture, and identity was a major factor in the early 20th century’s rise in support for an autonomous state for Odia speakers.
The British government finally recognized the idea of a separate province under the notable leadership of Madhusudan Das, Utkalmani Gopabandhu Das, and Fakir Mohan Senapati. This gave Odisha independent administrative status and made it the first Indian state based on linguistic principles. Today, we commemorate Odisha Foundation Day (Utkala Dibasa) every year.
It is a proud and poignant celebration of the people of Odisha, honoring their rich history, tenacity, and the sacrifices made by its leaders who helped shape the state.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi, and Deputy Chief Ministers Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo and Pravati Parida took to their X handles to extend warm wishes on Odisha Diwas.
CM Majhi paid tribute to the state’s founding fathers, while Deputy CM Singh Deo honoured Odisha’s rich heritage and resilient people. Deputy CM Parida remembered the heroes who fought for a separate Odisha state. The leaders called for unity and resolve to build a prosperous and healthy Odisha.
“Greetings and best wishes to everyone on the occasion of Odisha Day. A humble tribute to the great men who made immense sacrifices for the formation of a separate Odisha state and enhanced the glory of our language, literature and culture. On this day, let us further strengthen our resolve to build a healthy and developed Odisha”, read CM Mohan Majhi’s tweet.
Deputy CM KV Singh Deo’s tweet reads: “ Wishing everyone a joyous Utkal Diwas! Today, we honour the indomitable spirit, timeless heritage, and unmatched resilience of our beloved Odisha. From the sacred shores of Puri to the majestic peaks of the Eastern Ghats, our land is a tapestry of culture, courage, and progress. May we continue to script new chapters of glory while upholding the legacy of our forebears. Jai Jagannath!”
Deputy CM Pravati Parida tweeted: “Heartiest greetings and congratulations to all Odia brothers and sisters on the occasion of Utkal Day. On this occasion, I pay my humble tribute to the great heroes of the creation of a special Utkal state. Let us all resolve to build a prosperous and prosperous Odisha.”
