India won the second Test by 337 runs after knocking England out for 271 on the last day of play at Edgbaston on Sunday. This historic victory was India’s first Test win at the stadium, bringing the five-match series even at 1-1.
Akash Deep had the time of his life as he returned with six wickets in the second innings of the Edgbaston Test, helping the visitors score a spectacular 336 runs in the second game of the five-match series. As a result of this effort, India secured their first Test victory at Edgbaston. Akash Deep finished with ten wickets in the encounter, bringing the series equal at 1-1.
Rain hampered the final day, which began late. There was no play for nearly two hours. However, Day 5 began at 5:10 PM IST. India dominated the first session on the final day of the second Test against England at Edgbaston, taking three wickets. Akash Deep gave the visitors the best possible start, dismissing overnight batsmen Ollie Pope and Harry Brook.
However, the departure of Akash Deep from the attack relieved pressure on England, as Ben Stokes and Jamie Smith dug in to frustrate India. However, right on the cusp of Lunch, Washington Sundar got a wicket against the run of play as he sent England captain Ben Stokes back to the hut for 33.
Jamie Smith and Chris Woakes then formed a brief partnership in the second session, frustrating India. However, Prasidh Krishna terminated the stand with his first wicket of the game. Jamie Smith was the biggest thorn in India’s side, as he fell while attempting a third consecutive six off Akash Deep’s bowling. Smith was England’s leading scorer with 88 runs.
Following Smith’s departure, it was only a matter of time before India cleaned up England’s tail. Akash Deep took the final wicket as the visitors sealed a historic victory.
Shubman Gill took the final catch, fittingly, after hitting 430 runs in a great game for India. India and England will now face off at Lord’s Cricket Ground in the third Test, which begins July 10.
