The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘Red Warning’ for scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall, with isolated extremely heavy falls, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph.
This extreme weather is anticipated to hit one or two districts in Odisha during the next 24 hours.
According to the IMD’s midday meteorological report, the ‘Red Warning’ only applies to the districts of Jagatsinghpur and Puri, where heavy rains and thunderstorms are expected.
The IMD has also issued a ‘Orange Warning’ for isolated heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorms with similar wind speeds in the districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Bolangir, and Dhenkanal.
Meanwhile, a ‘Yellow Warning’ has been issued in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Angul, and Keonjhar for isolated heavy rains and thunderstorms with gusty gusts of up to 50 kmph. Thunderstorms with lightning and winds of 30-40 kmph are also predicted for Nuapada, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, and Deogarh.
Residents are advised to remain cautious and keep up with weather forecasts as the situation progresses.
