According to the India Meteorological Department, a depression in the west-central Bay of Bengal deepened late Wednesday night.
The system had drifted north-northwest at a speed of 10 km/h over the previous six hours and was centered around 11.30 p.m. on October 1 over the west-central and bordering northwest Bay of Bengal, at latitude 16.8°N and longitude 86.0°E.
According to the IMD, the deep depression was centered around 300 kilometers east-southeast of Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), 300 kilometers south-southeast of Gopalpur (Odisha), 330 kilometers south of Puri (Odisha), and 400 kilometers south of Paradip (Odisha).
The system is forecast to continue moving north-northwestward, crossing the Odisha and neighboring Andhra Pradesh beaches between Gopalpur and Paradip on October 2 night.
