Cuttack’s internet connections were restored on Tuesday evening, after a 48-hour suspension imposed in response to recent violence in the city. The restoration has provided much-needed respite to homes, students, and businesses that were impacted by the outage.
After receiving reports of conflicts in particular areas, commissionerate police halted internet connectivity as a precaution. The Odisha Home Department extended the restriction for another 24 hours, from 7 p.m. on October 6 to 7 p.m. on October 7, citing the potential of digital platforms being exploited to disseminate rumors or encourage violence.
Earlier on Tuesday, the city’s 36-hour curfew was removed. Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh announced that peace and order have been restored.
“The situation is being closely monitored and adequate police forces have been deployed at sensitive locations. No untoward incidents were reported during the curfew period,” said Commissioner Singh.
