A low-pressure system over the southeast Bay of Bengal has deepened into a Deep Depression, moving west-northwest at 10 km per hour. As of 5:30 a.m. IST on October 26, 2025, the system was centered near latitude 11.1°N and longitude 87.2°E.
The system is now positioned approximately 610 km west of Port Blair (Andaman and Nicobar Islands), 790 km east-southeast of Chennai (Tamil Nadu), 850 km south-southeast of Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), 840 km southeast of Kakinada (Andhra Pradesh), and 950 km south-southeast of Gopalpur (Odisha).
Within the next 24 hours, the Deep Depression is expected to move west-northwest, intensifying into a cyclonic storm over the southwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal. It is then forecast to travel northwestward, then north-northwestward, intensifying into a severe cyclonic storm by October 28 AM.
The strong cyclonic storm is expected to cross the Andhra Pradesh coast between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam, near Kakinada, in the evening/night of October 28, with maximum sustained winds of 90-100 kmph gusting to 110 kmph.
The forecast has caused authorities to issue alerts and advisories for the coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.
